Adidas and Stars to team up again in 2011

After a great first season with Adidas the Cal Stars and Adidas will team up again in 2011. The Cal Stars is 1 of 25 Adidas Sponsored Teams and the only club in Northern California.

Club Director Kelly Sopak was very pleased with Adidas this season "The folks at Adidas are an excellent group to work with. They have great people and run high quality events. The Cal Stars are looking forward to helping Adidas grow their brand".

The Stars played in two Adidas Sponsored Events. The Elite team went a combined 9-1 in their two events while the 8th Grade Elite took 4th place in their only appearance this summer.

Next year the Stars are planning to send ALL of their high school teams to both Adidas events plus the Adidas Cup in Chicago. "We always look out for the best interest of players and their exposure. Adidas seems to be the perfect fit for us" exclaimed Sopak.

Look for an Adidas West Coast event soon!

Elite continue July hot streak

All four Cal Stars High School teams (Elite, Red, White & 8th 2014) will all make the trip to San Diego and take part in the Mid Summer Nigh Madness (MSNM) Western Championships July 28-31.

The Elite team is coming off a much needed 11 day rest after playing 17 games in 11 days during the first NCAA Viewing period July 5-16. During that stretch the Elite won 14 games while losing only 3 games. The Stars went 4 and 2 while in Oregon at both the Lewis and Clark Scrimmage and Nike End of the Trail Event. The Elite team continued playing well by going 6 and 0 at the Nike Summer Showcase in Chicago, Illinois. The Elite ended their run by going 4 and 1 en route to the Consolation Championship in Cincinnati at the the Adidas National Championships. Currently the Elite team is 41-7 and will likely improve on that record in San Diego.

The Red squad went 2 and 3 at the Nike End of the Trail Tournament in Oregon City and 3 and 2 at the Nike Music City Madness Tournament in Nashville Tennessee. The Red team improved to over .500 on the season and are looking to make a deep run in San Diego.

The White Team has had a light summer but played well in Southern California taking 2nd Place at the Cal Sparks Summer Games Tournament. The 8th Grade 2014 team also has had a light July. After claiming 3rd at the 2014 End of the Trail Tournament in Oregon City the Stars placed 4th place at the Adidas National Championships in Cincinnati Ohio. Both the White and 8th 2014 will take part in the All Star Division in San Diego.

The MSNM Tournament July 28-31 will mark the official end of the NCAA Viewing Period. After this time a lot of the Cal Stars players and coaches will be busy trying to finalize all of the college recruiting. Good luck to all Cal Star players, especially our class of 2011.

8th Graders go 4 and 1 in Oregon City

The Cal Stars 2014 (8th Grade) team just completed a great run at the Nike End of the Trail Youth Shootout in Oregon City, Oregon. The Tournament ran from June 25th - June 28th and featured some of the regions top 2014 teams.

The Stars won their opener big but had rally from a double digit deficit in round two to knock of the Tukwilla Reign. In the Semi-Final Game the Stars agin rallied back from a double digit deficit only to come up short to the eventual Tournament Champion Seattle YEA Elite.

After the tough loss the Stars rallied back to beat the top two teams in Oregon. The Stars fell behind early to Oregon City (Host Team) to win going away by 20 points. In the 3rd place game the Stars got a rematch with Team Concept out of Oregon. Team Concept knocked them out the of the tournament last year when they were 7th graders. It appeared like history was going to repeat as the athletic Team Concept squad opened up and early 13 point lead at 19-6. To their credit the Stars hung around in the game cutting it to single digits midway through the 2nd half. At the 5:15 mark the Stars put together a 12-0 run and took a 3 point lead with a minute to go. In the end the Stars put the gamne away, winning 57-50 and taking home the 3rd Place Trophy.

The Stars 2014 team now will take a couple weeks off before going to Ohio on July 13-15 and San Diego July 28-31. Great Job Stars. The Results of the tournament can be found at the following link:

By D. Alexander

5 teams combine for 23-0 record

The Cal Stars sent five teams to Reno to take part in the 625 team "All Under One Roof" Reno AAU Memorial Day Championship Tournament. The Stars returned home with a PERFECT 23 and 0 record. All Five teams (5th Red, 7th Blue, 8th Red, Blue HS and Elite HS) went unbeaten and claimed their respective brackets, including the highest bracket of all, the Varsity Blue.

The tournament started Friday night with the Elite playing a scrimmage vs Jam on it and ended late Monday night with both the Elite and Blue on center court taking home their respective titles. Of course their were 20 exciting games in the middle that all had a common result - Stars winning.

The 5th Grade Red (Coach Tricia Reyes) team opened up tournament play with 3 straight come from behind wins to reach the championship. The Championship game saw the stars overcome a 16 point defict and make an incredible come back to win by two and claim the title. The 7th Grade Blue (Coach Steve Diaz) had an opposite type of win. The 7th Blue led by 30 and after a couple foul outs had to hold on for the two point win but still champions! The 8th Grade Red (Coach Don Chase) played in their 1st 8th grade tournament of the year and proved why they have been playing up in high school all season. The 8th Graders rolled through the field in Reno winning the championship game 61-17. This after they won the semi-final game 63-16. The Blue High School (Coach Raul Reyes) is hottest team in the club winning now 6 straight games and two straight tournaments. The Blue HS won the championship 49-42. The Elite team (Coach JR Hatten) also remained hot and proved the compeition in LA 2 weeks ago served them well. The Elite won each game by 14+ points, including a 74-60 win over the host  Jam on It senior team in the Championship.

Congratulations to all FIVE Cal Star Champions.
