Coach Hatten is entering his thirdyear with the Cal Stars as the assistant coach of the Elite team. During his tenure as the Cal Stars Elite assistant coach the Stars have rolled off nearly 100 wins and have placed at all of the major college viewing events.
Prior to joining the Cal Stars, J.R . was the director and head varsity coach of the Hanford Stars Basketball Club in Hanford (CA) from 2002-2004. Coach Hatten also played basketball while attending the U.S. Naval Academy from 1978-1980, and was a student assistant coach from 1980-1981.
Coach Hatten’s head coaching highlights include the 2003 AAU 12U D2 National Championship, two Central Cal AAU district championships (2002 and 2003), and four consecutive league titles as the 8th grade head coachat St. Rose McCarthy (Hanford) from 2003-2007.
Coach Hatten is a retired, combat-experienced naval aviator and F/A-18 Pilot with over 700 carrier landings. A former F/A-18 Squadron Commanding Officer and a graduate of the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN),
Coach Hatten brings unequaled leadership skills and experience to the student-athletes in the Cal Stars Program. He is currently the owner, CEO and president of Tamarack Technologies in Fresno.
Coach Hatten resides in Fresno with his wife (Michelle) and three children: Morgan ( a guard for St. Mary’s College in Moraga), Madison, who was a star at Hanford like her older sister, and Weston.
