White shows off in Seattle

WOW, that was an experience for many of our players who have never been to such a college viewing tournament. Thanks to all the parents for their support during the tournament and to the Masuoka’s for the stats of games. I have loaded the stats to the private section of the web site if you want to look.

Our first game came against a well disciplined Way to Win team from Washington. Way to Win had 3 Varsity teams in the tournament. It was our first real big game in our first college viewing tournament and it showed. We shot 20% Free throws and 21% from the field and had 3 times more turnovers than steals. We had the jitters and certainly did not perform as we had hoped. Mel had 17 points and 8 boards in a losing effort.

Our second game came against a tough 8th grade Blaze Team with 2 big post players . Their top player was 6’4” and came in at 230 lbs. No one could match up against her so we doubled down by fronting and squeezing from behind. That held her in check for most of the game. It was one of our hardest fought games and we stayed ahead the entire time. The difference was our 61 % free throw shooting and holding our turnovers almost equal to steals. Devon lead all scorers with 17 followed by Jenna with 13 and Carly 10.  Kimi and Carly both had 4 assists in the second game.

Our third game came at 8:00 am on Sunday morning. Unbelievably we lead the first half by 4 and came out slow and sluggish in the second to go down by 17. We had to fight back hard to eventually lose by 8. They were a good shooting team and well disciplined. Our defense was slacking and we really didn’t have the strength to pull out a win. This time we were lead by Kimi’s 13 points which included 3 – 3’s. Mel chipped in 11 points.

Our fourth game at 5:30 Sunday afternoon, after a long days sitting around in the gym and restaurants waiting for game time. When the time came, we met up with another out of town  team from Idaho. We had an 8:00 flight and they had an 8:30 flight. We got a little help from Greer and Nicole on the Red team as we were done to 6 players. We had a 14 point lead at one point but the Magic from Idaho kept it real. We eventually grinded out the win and ran out of the gym to catch our flights home. Coach Dan used only one time out. Jessica turned her offensive prowess on with 11 pts, 5 boards and 3 blocks. Mel also came in with another solid performance of 11 points. We came away with a 7 point win and a quick trip to the airport.
